Ecumenical Good Friday procession

In 2023, an ecumenical Good Friday procession will once again move through Berlin's Mitte district. This year's procession, organized by the Protestant Church District of Berlin City Center, is dedicated to people suffering from the effects of current crises and catastrophes: The victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, the oppressed women in Iran, the victims of the war in Ukraine and all those whose lives are threatened by climate change.

The procession will begin at 10:45 a.m. following the service at St. Mary's Church. Bishop Christian Stäblein, Archbishop Heiner Koch, General Superintendent Ulrike Trautwein, the Greek Orthodox Bishop Emmanuel von Christoupolis and numerous brothers and sisters in faith from the ecumenical community will be among those taking part.

The Berlin Good Friday procession, which has been taking place since 2010, begins after the service in front of St. Mary's Church and leads from there to the Berlin Cathedral, along the street Unter den Linden to the Neue Wache and ends with the blessing of Archbishop Koch and Bishop Stäblein on Bebelplatz in front of Hedwig's Cathedral. Several hundred people take part in the procession each year, many joining spontaneously.

Date: Good Friday, April 7, 2023, 10:45 a.m., church service at 10 a.m.

The procession starts in front of St. Mary's Church, Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 8, 10178 Berlin Mitte.
