The Berlin-Stadmitte district is home to a number of faith communities and projects whose goal is to provide alternative ways of accessing Christian spirituality and faith practice as complimentary alternatives to the traditional parish or congregation. Berlin is a city of widely diverse spiritual needs, and these places represent an expansion of what “church” means, a way of reaching out to the city we live in to create new spiritual life within it.

REFO Moabit

Housed in the Reformationskirche, a former parish in the Moabit neighborhood, REFO Moabit is an initiative begun by young church members in 2009 to found a community of Christian life and work beyond the traditional structures of the Protestant church. In 2011, REFO Moabit took over the Reformationskirche, and with the support of the church district, this convent-style project is now on long-term financial footing for its mission to bring spiritual, cultural, and community life to the neighborhood.

Stadtkloster Segen

Stadtkloster Segen is an intentional Christian community located in the Segen Church, a former parish building completed in 1909. The community consists of single people, families, and short-term volunteers who live and work together to serve the local community, the city of Berlin and the visitors to the Stadtkloster. Embedded in a vibrant and busy urban life, the Stadtkloster aims to provide a place of communion and peaceful silence for its guests, a place to encounter the self and God. Stadtkloster Segen is a joint project of the Christian Community Don Camillo in Montmirail, Switzerland, and the United Church of Berlin, Brandenburg, and Silesian Upper Lusatia.
